2nd-3rd C carnelian intaglio with the scene "Hunt of the god Mithras" in the 4th C gold belt buckle with garnets. "The carving on the gem was most likely done by a Roman master, but the scene itself has close analogies in the painting of the city of Dura Europos" "Carnelian intaglio. Hunt of the god Mithras. 2nd-3rd C Hermitage. The gem is inserted into a gold belt buckle decorated with garnets & granules. The buckle probably dates back to the 4th C. The carving on the gem was most likely done by a Roman master, but the scene itself has close analogies in the painting of the city of Dura Europos on the Euphrates." Source: V. G.
